I Have a Confession: Fanny Packs

As someone who grew up in the 80s, this trend was never supposed to see the light of day. But we all know what goes around comes around and as trends from the 80s and 90s make an unfortunate comeback (acid washed jeans, I'm looking at you), it was only a matter of time before this too would reemerge.

Today I am talking about…wait for it…fanny packs. Only we no longer call them "fanny packs". Now we call them adorably cheeky "bum bags" or the more practical name, "belt bags".

And you guys, I'm not mad about it. Now before you revoke my fashion card, hear me out.

Is there really a huge difference aesthetically in the belt bag and a crossover bag that rests on your hip? And with the nylon, neon versions being replaced with chic leather and on-trend leopard bags, can't they seamlessly fit in with a modern, fashionable wardrobe? And aren't they the most practical item for summer festivals, all day bike riding, all night dancing, and hands free exploring?

Are they really that bad?

But that's not stopping me from daydreaming of being the first fashionable woman to walk down Woodward Ave. wearing a fanny pack bum bag (when I dream, I dream big). Currently I have my eye on this one.

Still not convinced? Michael Kors, Clare V., Steve Alan, Moschino, Tory Burch, Givenchy, Rachel Zoe, Alexander Wang, Missoni, Rag & Bone, Gucci, Celine, and CHANEL have ALL shown bum bags in their recent collections.

I'm not sure if I'll actually pull the trigger and buy one, but I'm not going to lie, I'm tempted.

No ifs, ands, or bums about it.
