Outfit Post: {Faux} Leather & Fur

top: pitaya
faux leather pants: zara
suede shoes: old aldo (similar here)
clutch: vintage (similar here)
faux fur stole: old h&m (similar here)

On Sunday night, I attended the closing event for the Detroit Design Festival at the Detroit City Airport Hangar. For the event - a mixture of fashion, music, and art - I wanted to be comfortable, warm, and stylish. I love the mixture of textures between the fur stole and leather pants, which are also a great alternative to my usual skinny jeans. Have a great weekend, everyone!

Fall Wishlist

Fall Wishlist

Fall is my favorite time of the year for shopping. I think it dates back to elementary school and the excitement of back-to-school shopping. Back then, it wasn't even about the clothes. It was about finding the perfect lunch box, back pack, notebook and pencils to start the year off right. Now, it's definitely about the clothes. I think it makes it easier to say goodbye to summer when you can say hello to cozy sweaters and fall boots.

This fall, I'm looking to add classic wardrobe staples that will mix well with my current closet.

The number one item on my wish list is a leather jacket. I've been on a hunt for years for the perfect one. It's a great investment piece that goes with everything, but if you want the real thing, it comes with a price. This leather jacket from Theory (1) comes pretty close to perfect. Buttery tan leather, oversized collar, and a slightly slouchy fit.

A menswear inspired watch is also a must. This leather band Michael Kors version (2) is a great alternative to the popular all gold style.

I'm also looking for the perfect little dress to take me through cooler weddings and upcoming holiday parties. I love that the 3/4 sleeve on this Alice & Olivia dress (3) keeps it classic and appropriate for cooler temps, while the peplum style adds a fun, trendy element to the style.

I'm all about the pointy toe flats (4). And as a fan of all things leopard, these Madewell's are the perfect punch of fun.
Living in Detroit, I can't rely on cute and dainty shoes for the rest of the year. These Sorel Boots (5) are practical and stylish and will ensure both my feet and skinny jeans stay dry during the wettest and coldest months.

As someone who lives in soft and cozy sweaters, I love this cashmere t-shirt version (6) from J. Crew. It comes in a range of colors and pairs just as well with pencil skirts as it does jeans.

I've had my eye on this Marc Jacobs hobo bag (7) forever. Every season the Jacobs comes out with a new set of colors, but you can't go wrong with classic black leather and gold hardware.

It's taken me a while to jump on the colored skinny jean trend, but I am finally embracing it with this red pair from 7 For All Mankind (8). Paired with a tan cashmere sweater, they'll add brightness even on the grayest of days.

Goodbye summer. Hello, Fall.

What's on your wishlist this season?

Currently Coveting: {Emerald City}

Emerald Green is definitely having it's moment. Not only was it a major color on the runways during Fashion Week, but the rich jewel tone is currently everywhere. An obvious choice for the fall/winter season, it looks like the color will also be a staple come spring.

Michael Kors / Gucci / Oscar de la Renta

Burberry Prorsum / Oscar de la Renta / Vera Wang

I personally like to pair it with glitzy gold for the perfect holiday look. Maybe it's because it reminds me a little of a shimmering Christmas tree, but who doesn't want to walk around looking like something as fantastic as a Christmas tree? Shine on...

Emerald & Gold

Cozy {Fireplace} Escape

As the air gets cooler, I start to daydream about cozy fall nights in front of the fire. And while I may not have a fireplace (yet), it doesn't stop me from obsessing about cozying up in front of these gorgeous wintery mantels. Bring it on, Fall.

Emmys {Red Carpet} Round Up

I love awards season. Not because I'm invested in the certain television shows, movies, or songs that are being honored for the hours of entertainment they provide us, but because of the outfits. Award shows are the rare times celebrities are able to wear the most elaborate, creative, and beautiful gowns in the world (and then be judged for their choices by viewers). Last night's Emmy Awards, while slightly disappointing in the lack of overall risks, showcased some gorgeous designer duds.

Here are some of my favorite looks from the show:

The White Stuff:
Jeannie Mai in Nha Khanh / Jessica Pare in Jason Wu / Christina Hendricks in Christian Siriano
 Bright is Right:
Ginnifer Goodwin in Monique Lhullier / Allison Williams in Oscar de la Renta / Kaley Cuoco in Angel Sanchez

Black Night:
Giuliana Rancic in Romana Keveza / January Jones in Zac Posen / Anna Chlumsky in Christian Siriano

Shimmer & Shine:
Kerry Washington in Vivienne Westwood / Jane Krakowski in Kaufmanfranco / Lucy Liu in Versace

Fall Equinox

Have a great weekend and enjoy the first day of fall!

I Have a Confesstion: White {Lie} Wedding

Four years ago, the Hubby and I stood up in front of 90 of our closest friends and family, read each other the vows we co-wrote, toasted with champagne, and danced the night away at our destination Detroit Wedding.

Only we didn't actually get married.

Our ceremony was led by a great friend of ours, but he was never actually ordained. Rather than have him “ruin his future political career” by getting ordained at The Internet Church of Google, he led an incredibly heartfelt and personal ceremony as our friend.

It wasn't until two days later, on the first day of fall, standing on a marina dock in a very private and intimate ceremony, that we re-read our vows and, this time legally (we’re pretty sure!), said "I do."

Although the first ceremony may not have been legal, it was certainly a celebration.

Here are some of my favorite photos from the day:

Happy (fake) anniversary, love! And cheers to Turning over a New Leaf!

Currently Coveting: The White Stuff

Recently, a friend asked me my perspective on white after Labor Day. As most of you know, this is historically considered a taboo in the world of style. However, in today's fashion, creativity and an "anything goes" attitude overrules any predated standards on what one can and cannot wear. Along with the "sequins and glitter should be reserved for nighttime" rule, I tend to ignore the "no white after Labor Day" rule as well (I'll save the daytime glitter for another post). Besides, if celebrities can prance around in public without pants, I'd say it's safe for the rest of us to wear a little white this fall.

My favorite way to wear post labor day whites is paired with rich neutrals and sophisticated materials such as leather, cashmere and fur.

Rainy Day Blues

I love all of this -- especially the Great Dane!

Today is one of those rainy days in Detroit. The kind of day where you don't want to take off your pjs and instead want to spend the day curled up on the couch with tea and a good book (and by good book I mean a really bad romantic comedy). But unfortunately, some days, raining or not, you have to get up, get dressed, and face the world. And ideally, look good doing it. Fortunately, it is possible and above are some great examples of women doing just that - braving the rain in style.

Office Space: Rue Magazine

The newest edition of the digital decor magazine, Rue hit my inbox this morning. As always, this issue was full of stylish decor and amazing finds for the home. My favorite segment was a spread of the magazine's new office space in San Francisco. I am obsessed with everything about this chic office: the pair of metallic Parsons desks (you can find those here), the mismatched chairs, the bold accessories, and the massive inspiration board.

As someone who works from home, my current "office" rotates between my bed, the kitchen table, the couch and the occasional coffee shop, so I am constantly looking for inspiration to finally create my own work space. An added challenge in my own design process is that The Hubby does additional work most evenings and needs a designated space as well. The above image represents the perfect way to incorporate both work spaces in a cohesive, stylish way.

Check out the full issue of Rue here.

Currently Coveting: Booties

Booties are a great way to transition your wardrobe from summer into fall. They look just as amazing with shorts and skirts as they do with pants. I'm currently coveting these:

1. Cole Haan / 2. Max Kibardin / 3. Rachel Roy / 4. Jeffrey Campbell / 5. Rag & Bone / 6. DV by Dolce Vita
