Winter Heat Wave

I know the East Coast is still recovering from winter storm Jonas, but here in Detroit, it's been in the 40s, the sun's been shining, and there hasn't been a flake of snow all week (knock on wood!).

So instead of my usual winter hibernating, I've been enjoying strolls along the Detroit Riverwalk and wearing heels instead of snow boots.

But seeing how it's only February, I'm sure there is many a snow day in our forecast, but in the meantime, I'll be taking advantage of these warmer days - and a temporary break from shapeless outerwear - by wearing light jackets and scarves instead of the usual tent-sized sleeping bag coats.

On Wednesdays We Wear Pink

Part of the reason I love going back home to Virginia is because my wardrobe triples in size. Between my mom and my sister (who was too preggers to fit into most of her clothes), I get to play dress up in two additional closets. And since I regularly help both of them shop, they obviously have some pretty great pieces in their wardrobes.

Like this hot pink coat.

You may remember this coat from last year - which has been so popular, over a year later and it's still being repinned on Pinterest multiple times a day. To say I love this coat is an understatement. There is just something so joyful about a ridiculously bright coat in the depths of the winter.

And since Detroit is way colder than Virginia and in desperate need of a little brightness, I'm hoping my sister will give in and just give me the coat. After all, I did pick it out.

Hometown Tourist

I've lived in Detroit for the last ten years, but I spent the first two-thirds of my life in a suburb of DC (Reston, VA represent!). Growing up so close to the city, I was always asked if I spent my weekends going to museums and touring all the amenities DC has to offer. But unless it was for a school project or a friend came into town to visit, I rarely took advantage of living so close to the city. I guess the fact that DC was always readily available meant it was never a priority.

But as an adult, one of my favorite things to do when I go back is to explore all the spots I didn't fully appreciate while I was living there. All the places I felt dragged to as a kid - the museums, the monuments, even the mall - I'm now able to enjoy in a way I never could as a kid.

Maybe that comes with growing up. Or maybe absence really does make the heart grow fonder. Either way, I'm excited to keep exploring.

It's time.

Time to pack away my winter gear. Time to stop wearing boots every. single. day. Time to bring my spring wardrobe out of hiding.

It might not actually be time (it's 12 degrees as I write this), but emotionally, it's time.

Bulky, winter coats, I'm over you. I'm moving on to lighter things - like my favorite trench coat. I don't care how much more snow we get or how long this winter actually lasts. I'm moving on.

It's time.

Why do fashion bloggers wear our coats draped over our shoulders in 0 degree weather? Because details matter. The cuff of a shirt, your wrist jewelry, a crossbody bag. All of these details matter. And all these details get covered up by a big, bulky winter coat.

So we drape.

And then immediately put our arms in our coat sleeves like everybody else.

Outfit Post: Winter Date Look

Winter may be in full force, but that doesn't mean my date night outfit needs to suffer. Tired of wearing skinny jeans, boots, and an oversized sweater, I decided to step it up and bring out the sexy in spite of the cold temps.

As I've said before, nothing brings out the sexy more than a pair of over the knee boots, especially when paired with a winter white dress and topped with a little leather and (faux) fur. 

Was I was a little overly ambitious with the bare legs? Maybe.

But that's what Uber is for.
