Hometown Tourist

I've lived in Detroit for the last ten years, but I spent the first two-thirds of my life in a suburb of DC (Reston, VA represent!). Growing up so close to the city, I was always asked if I spent my weekends going to museums and touring all the amenities DC has to offer. But unless it was for a school project or a friend came into town to visit, I rarely took advantage of living so close to the city. I guess the fact that DC was always readily available meant it was never a priority.

But as an adult, one of my favorite things to do when I go back is to explore all the spots I didn't fully appreciate while I was living there. All the places I felt dragged to as a kid - the museums, the monuments, even the mall - I'm now able to enjoy in a way I never could as a kid.

Maybe that comes with growing up. Or maybe absence really does make the heart grow fonder. Either way, I'm excited to keep exploring.

New Year

Sorry for the lack of posting, but I've been spending time in Virginia for the holidays. My sister is 9 months pregnant (yay!) so I'm camped out here until my little nephew decides to make an appearance. Like his aunt, he's fashionably late.

While we wait for the little guy to arrive, I'm enjoying my time playing games, wasting zero time on hair and makeup, and basking in random 70 degree days.

Happy 2016 everyone!

Styleshack Holiday Look Book

By now, you probably know I am a huge fan of Detroit and a huge fan of shopping locally within the city. So when girlboss, Rachel Schostak of local shopping site, Styleshack asked me to participate in their holiday look book, I couldn't say yes fast enough. Especially once I realized it involved spending the day before the shoot shopping and styling the looks from the areas best shops (Tender, Guys N Gals, SHE, and Detroit is the New Black, just to name a few).

The feature was an aspirational "Day in the Life" series - if my life involved pouncing around the city in Valentino booties and Marni outfits instead of my usual jeans and striped tees. It's not everyday I get to play dress up in so many incredible clothes and accessories, pretending to lead a glamorous, designer filled life.

I better be careful - a girl could get used to that.

Thanks again Styleshack for having me as part of your holiday campaign and be sure to check out the full feature (as well as where to buy all these incredible pieces) here.

Lee & Birch Does Detroit

Last month, on one of Detroit’s rare warm winter days, I ran around downtown with the team from the Grand Rapids boutique, Lee and Birch.

After grabbing a much needed coffee at the Roasting Plant, we headed over to the Z Lot to check out the murals, the rooftop view, and The Belt Ally. We had a blast hitting up some of the "must see" spots around the city in some of the "must wear" fall pieces from Lee & Birch.

Check out a few of the shots from our day and stay tuned for more photos of our romp around the city. And thank you again to Lee & Birch for letting me be your tour guide for the day!
