Outfit Post: Unlimited Feathers

By now, most of you are probably hip to Rent the Runway. You know, the fashion lover's dream site that allows you to rent fancy designer dresses at a fraction of the price. Yeah that one.

Well it just got a whole lot better.

Recently the company decided to expand their Unlimited program (which previously limited shoppers to accessories alone) to include all their inventory.

That's right. ALL their inventory. Jewelry, accessories, dresses, you name it.

For a monthly fee (either $49/month or $99/month depending on when you signed up), you can borrow three items at a time for as long as you want. Don't like an item? Send it back and pick another item. Love an item, keep it for as long as you want.

If you're really smart, you can have a constantly rotating collection of designer clothes and accessories for less than $100 a month. And if you're like me and typically buy different versions of the same item (striped shirts, I'm looking at you), this is an incredible way to let you experiment with different trends and styles without the commitment. Trends like this Elizabeth and James feathered jacket. This is exactly the type of impractical item I would lust over but would never consider buying. It's exactly the type of impractical item I would love to wear once around town and then immediately exchange for something else. With the Unlimited program, I get to do just that.

Goodbye, style rut. Hello, designer wardrobe.

It's time.

Time to pack away my winter gear. Time to stop wearing boots every. single. day. Time to bring my spring wardrobe out of hiding.

It might not actually be time (it's 12 degrees as I write this), but emotionally, it's time.

Bulky, winter coats, I'm over you. I'm moving on to lighter things - like my favorite trench coat. I don't care how much more snow we get or how long this winter actually lasts. I'm moving on.

It's time.

Outfit Post: Draped Crusader

Why do fashion bloggers wear our coats draped over our shoulders in 0 degree weather? Because details matter. The cuff of a shirt, your wrist jewelry, a crossbody bag. All of these details matter. And all these details get covered up by a big, bulky winter coat.

So we drape.

And then immediately put our arms in our coat sleeves like everybody else.

Outfit Post: Winter Date Look

Winter may be in full force, but that doesn't mean my date night outfit needs to suffer. Tired of wearing skinny jeans, boots, and an oversized sweater, I decided to step it up and bring out the sexy in spite of the cold temps.

As I've said before, nothing brings out the sexy more than a pair of over the knee boots, especially when paired with a winter white dress and topped with a little leather and (faux) fur. 

Was I was a little overly ambitious with the bare legs? Maybe.

But that's what Uber is for.

Outfit Post: Jungle Fever

This winter is really starting to take a toll on my ability to get suitable outfit posts. Between the limited daylight hours, the snow, and the bone chilling temps, it's nearly impossible to get a decent shot. To solve this issue (and survive the remainder of the winter), I've decided it's time to get creative with my locations.

First up, the Anna Scripps Whitcomb Conservatory on Belle Isle.

This is one of my favorite (not so secret) secret Detroit spots, particularly in the colder months. Not only is this place the perfect backdrop for a romantic Valentine's date, but its jungle-like temps offer a balmy reprieve from the winter snow.

So grab a date, grab a friend, or just grab a book and go warm up from the sleet and snow.

Outfit Post: Buffalo Plaid

This past weekend I was lucky enough to escape the season's biggest snow storm and head to the beaches of Pensacola, Florida to visit my in laws for a few days.

It may not have been hot, but 50 degrees felt like a heatwave to me and was certainly warm enough for some beachside walks, a round of golf in the sunshine, and some fresh shrimp at the infamous Flora-Bama. And even if it was only for three days, it was a nice reprieve from sub-frozen temps, which I am now back home, feeling in full force.

How many more days 'til spring?

Outfit Post: Winter Sunshine

It's amazing what a difference a little sunshine can do. It's been in the single digits here in Detroit, but when the sun comes out (which is rare for these Michigan winters) my entire mood shifts.

For a brief moment, as I bask in the sun without seven layers on, I almost forget it's winter.

And then a harsh gust of win comes, wakes me out of my sunshine coma, and reminds me it's still only 12 degrees outside.

But for those few short lived moments, blind to the piles of snow around me, I can actually believe that spring is coming.
